No. We all have something to offer or a passion to share. Very often, a simple human interaction can make the difference. At Al Youssr, we are looking for volunteers willing to help others and we offer projects in which you can get involved with the satisfaction of making a positive change in others’ lives. However, certification is required for actions related to medical care.
Everyone can do volunteer work. Participants under the age of 18 must obtain the consent of their legal guardian(s) and travel with a participant adult.
To ensure an efficient impact, we limit the number of participants in a group to 12 people. Talk to us if you are more than 12, we can provide you with tailored projects.
We visit and discuss with each host family to ensure the convenience, reliability and security of the premises. Host families offer volunteers private rooms in an environment that might be sober but clean and safe.
You will start your day with a hearty breakfast in your host family then you will go to your volunteering placement. Depending on your project, you should expect to work between 3 and 6 hours a day from Monday to Friday with a break for lunch. Once your work is finished, you are free to go back to your homestay to relax and have dinner or to take advantage of your free time to visit the sights of Marrakech and its surroundings.
Fieldwork will vary depending on your project. In all cases, our staff will introduce you to your placement staff and explain the tasks to be performed. Also, before you come to Morocco, we will provide you with all the information you may need about your placement and your daily work.
In Morocco, the use of English is more and more widespread, mainly among young people and in commerce. If speaking Arabic or French is useful, it is not obligatory. The language should not stop you from volunteering. On the contrary, it is an excellent opportunity to improve your skills in foreign languages. Inform us before your departure if you wish to learn the basics or perform your skills in Arabic or French. Our staff can also provide useful expressions and help.
Yes of course! There are several communication options, including email, social media, Skype or Whatsapp. Wireless access points are common mainly in cafes and restaurants.
