No. We all have something to offer or a passion to share. Very often, a simple human interaction can make the difference. At Al Youssr, we are looking for volunteers willing to help others and we offer projects in which you can get involved with the satisfaction of making a positive change in others’ lives. However, certification is required for actions related to medical care.

Everyone can do volunteer work. Participants under the age of 18 must obtain the consent of their legal guardian(s) and travel with a participant adult.

To ensure an efficient impact, we limit the number of participants in a group to 12 people. Talk to us if you are more than 12, we can provide you with tailored projects.

We visit and discuss with each host family to ensure the convenience, reliability and security of the premises. Host families offer volunteers private rooms in an environment that might be sober but clean and safe.

You will start your day with a hearty breakfast in your host family then you will go to your volunteering placement. Depending on your project, you should expect to work between 3 and 6 hours a day from Monday to Friday with a break for lunch. Once your work is finished, you are free to go back to your homestay to relax and have dinner or to take advantage of your free time to visit the sights of Marrakech and its surroundings.

Fieldwork will vary depending on your project. In all cases, our staff will introduce you to your placement staff and explain the tasks to be performed. Also, before you come to Morocco, we will provide you with all the information you may need about your placement and your daily work.

In Morocco, the use of English is more and more widespread, mainly among young people and in commerce. If speaking Arabic or French is useful, it is not obligatory. The language should not stop you from volunteering. On the contrary, it is an excellent opportunity to improve your skills in foreign languages. Inform us before your departure if you wish to learn the basics or perform your skills in Arabic or French. Our staff can also provide useful expressions and help.

Yes of course! There are several communication options, including email, social media, Skype or Whatsapp. Wireless access points are common mainly in cafes and restaurants. You can also use your mobile phone with a local SIM card (if your phone is unlocked), or even buy a local phone. Upon your arrival, we will be happy to help you choose the best option.

Are included:

Are not included:
• Preparation for your trip to Morocco (vaccinations, visas, etc.)
• Travel insurance,
• Travel expenses (air tickets, train, etc.)
• Personal expenses.

You will need to provide a proof that you have been fully vaccinated against Covid 19 in your country and a negative PCR test taken less than 48 hours before boarding the plane.

Some other vaccinations may be necessary. We invite you to check with your country’s health services for a complete overview of the recommended vaccines and to get a list of medicines to bring with you on your trip.

After receiving your application for the chosen project, we will check your background and we will invite you to confirm your registration. We would be happy to discuss with you and help you during the different steps of your Moroccan experience.

Moroccan cuisine is one of the most renowned in the world. During your volunteer time, we will serve 2 meals a day ( breakfast and dinner), healthy and prepared with local products in the pure Moroccan tradition. You are also encouraged to inter-cultural exchanges by preparing and sharing your national food.

Please let us know if you have dietary restrictions. We will be happy to make arrangements for you.

You can expect to have weekends and evenings free. Depending on your project, you can also have free afternoons. You will have plenty of time to immerse yourself in Moroccan culture and discover the charms of the country.

All projects are a short drive away from good medical care. Our staff is available 24/7 to give you assistance, and make sure that you get the help you need if you get sick or get hurt. We remind you that a subscription to international travel insurance is required to participate in our projects.

Depending on your country of origin, you may need a tourist visa to volunteer and it is your responsibility to obtain it. We invite you to inquire at the embassy or consulate of Morocco in your country. We can also send you an invitation letter if needed. Contact us if you have any questions about this.

Volunteers must take appropriate international tourist travel insurance for the duration of their stay and send us a copy for confirmation of their registration. Check out our Find Travel Insurance section for more information.

A registration fee is due at the time of your application and the weekly program fee is due in full at least 3 weeks before your start date.

We have a zero tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol. Any volunteer caught using drugs or alcohol will be immediately removed from the program and all associated costs will be borne by them.
